What is the Maria Montessori theory

Pioneer. Feminist. Icon.  1865-1905

Maria Montessori was an Italian physician, educator, and innovator, acclaimed for her educational method that builds on the way children learn naturally.

She opened the first Montessori school in Rome in 1907. Subsequently, she travelled the world and wrote extensively about her approach to education, attracting many devotees. There are now thousands of Montessori schools in countries worldwide.

The Montessori Theory fosters self-motivated and self-paced growth for children in all areas of their development, including cognitive, emotional, social and physical.

Within the community of a multi-age classroom, designed to create natural opportunities for independence, citizenship and accountability, children embrace multi-sensory learning and passionate inquiry. Students follow their own curiosity at their own pace, taking the time they need to fully understand each concept and meet individualised learning goals.

The ultimate goal of a Montessori education is to nurture individuals into well-rounded, responsible adults who have developed strength, courage, compassion, empathy, a high level of knowledge and skill, a highly developed ability to adapt to changing circumstances and a natural inclination to collaborate in moral and peaceful ways.

What better outcome could you wish for your child?
